Compare The Best DJI VR Drone For you!

All renowned brands of VR drones we tested were not 100% accurate. Comparing DJI drones to other brands like Autel, Walkera, or Promark, we got satisfactory results.

Other brands’ VR drones are also effective, but DJI stands out because of their uniqueness. They always come with the latest technology and fix any bugs with every firmware update.

In light of the above point of view and considering affordability, we have listed below some of the most popular VR drones.

1/5

DJI Mavic Air 2s: Best Overall ( For Professionals)

Since its launch, DJI drones have been a market leader. They are the first to introduce the newest features and technology in every update.

The Air 2s is the most affordable VR drone currently available at an affordable price. It is a rare mid-cycle refresh VR drone for professional videography and photography.

Mavic Air 2S has a wider focal length, and the highest video shooting, and transmission capability. Besides, it offers you the highest mileage. That’s why it is called a VR racing drone.

DJI has made some changes to this FPV drone. The biggest update in this drone is its camera sensor and obstacle detection. It has a Mavic flagship 1-inch sensor in the camera whereas its predecessors were 0.5 inches.

So by upgrading, you will get 5.4K video quality at 30/60 fps which is awesome. Mavic 2 Pro VR drones can shoot video in 4K or passable 60 fps if you have used them.

Also, the bitrate of Air 2s is 150 MB per second whereas other predecessors were 100 MB ps or lower. That means you will get the most effective mainstreaming performance ever.

DJI added a supplementary feature to this called “smart shot”. With this feature, the drone takes some automated pre-programmed video shots like tighter or wide circular shots. It is an absolutely worthwhile experience for those who want to take a shot in a short time.

My complaints about this VR drone are that it should have more ISO for this buck. You can only record 4K or lower video quality in Hyperlapse mode.

I don’t know whether it is a deal breaker or not, but you are not getting a smart controller in Air 2s.

DJI Mavic Air 2:  Best In Budget

The DJI Mavic Air 2 is the killer of the original Mavic Air. DJI managed to update it in some aspects in a standard way from Mavic Air. You will have much longer flying time, stronger stability, better images, and video quality.

Mavic Air 2 has got a 48 MP camera which is amazing and more like a 12MP camera. So it is for sure that you will get more detailed image quality. You can even shoot 4K video at 60 fps. This is insane actually in this budget.

Controlling capability is more substantial than Mavic 2. It seemed the phone attached strongly to the controller even after shaking. There is a quick trigger button for capturing quick photos which were not in the previous one. I really love this feature.

Overall, the DJI Mavic Air 2 is the champion VR drone in this budget. It will suit beginners and pro-level drone users for an immersive flying experience.

The settings of this drone are identical to all the DJI drones. The only bug is you can not get bright image quality in dark mode by default. You need to increase the ISO for a better image.

3/5

DJI Mini 2 Fly: Ultralight Foldable Drone

DJI Mini 2 Fly gives a “wow” flying VR experience in this price range. It is so fast, and responsive. The quality and stability of the footage are amazing with a 4K camera.

I was surprised by the flying time and it could back up your VR running time up to 1 hour in 2 batteries. If you are a beginner or have some experience, the DJI Mini 2 Fly can be the most affordable cost option.

It has a compact design, 3 batteries, a quick shot, and automatic record mode. In full manual mode, you can fly it up to 10 km/h and compose stunning 4K videos.

More about this DJI drone is you can take it up to 4000 meters with anti-interference mode. The 3-axis gimbal lets you capture smooth 30fps videography and photography even on the windy coastline.

One of the most impressive features of MINI 2 is the OcuSync 2.0 technology. With it, you can adjust the frequencies between wireless video signals and control them automatically.

4/5

DJI Mavic Mini Combo: Best For Beginners

Mavic Mini Combo is one of the most impressive drones from DJI. It is small, has enough flight time, and has high video and image quality at 2.7K.

You are getting a 3-axis gimbal which is very reasonable for this budget. Gimbals stabilize the camera effectively. So, you will get stable shooting performance even in windy conditions.

The controller is very comfortable, intuitive, and works absolutely fine. It is easy to use and connects to your phone.

Battery backup capability is good enough. You can get up to 26 minutes on one flight although they claimed 30 minutes.

Mavic Mini Combo has some issues. For example, you cannot get smooth video quality in shadowy areas. Again, for those who love to shoot videos in 4K resolution, this would be disappointing.

Charging takes a long time as well. The interface system must be understood.

5/5

DJI Mini Se: Best Cheap VR Drone

Top-Notch

The Mini Se is the most suitable VR drone for beginners. If you have a tight budget or you just want to learn skills for your profession, just pick it up. You will be blown away by them.

It is lightweight, easy to set up, and does not need to register. The positioning sensor was quite accurate. You will be able to take plenty of smooth and sharp photos and videos.

One of my favorite parts of MINI SE is you can easily control the navigator and GPS system. Flying time was 27 minutes during my test. Not bad at all at this price range from my point of view.

The 3-Axis gimbal is just perfect for the stability of your camera. So no doubt that the image of this VR drone camera will be clearer. Compared to the Mavic version, it is still far behind.

Some of the shortcomings of this VR drone are- it is not able to take shots in 4K. I did not get the Mini in its own box. So you have to remember that before buying. You need to buy an extra SD card.

I never cared about the negative aspects because of the price. It is very helpful for me and would be fantastic for beginners. You do not even have to think twice about buying.

How do you know a smarter drone?

A smart VR drone contains the following features.

  • Has a decent flight time and connection to the satellite.
  • Use of controller/app and recording of GPS.
  • Hover in place, and has a collision censor, and system of warning.
  • An intelligent battery won’t fly in an illegal place and will return before the battery runs out even if your phone or controller died without a signal.

Ultimate Buyer Guide to VR Drones

You will find many drones in different price ranges. When it comes to price, your budget should not fall under $300. Because any drones under $300 are like a toy.

You need to focus on the size of the sensor while buying a VR drone. It would be better if the drone you are buying has a 1/2.3 size sensor if you are a professional. Because a more powerful sensor offers you a wider range of colors.

Another critical aspect of VR drones is the goal you have for the drone. So make a decision about what you are planning to do with that drone. Are you buying it just for fun, or to make money?

If you just want to have fun with drones, you don’t need to spend a lot of money.

Drone Registration

If you are a US citizen, you have to register your drone with Federal Aviation Administration. It does not matter for what purpose you are using drones, it is your responsibility as a sensible citizen.

If you don’t do that, FAA can find you and even put you in jail.

What is a gimbal and how does it work?

A gimbal is a VR drone camera stabilizer. Where there is more gimbal, the drone camera gets more stabilized. 3-Axis gimbal offers you a 360-degree video shooting experience. That means the camera movement will be independent and avoid bumps.

Can you use VR with drones?

The straight answer is yes. But it depends on your VR headset’s tracking sensor. For stabilized cameras, headset glasses are used.

How much does it cost to make a drone?

To make a high-quality VR drone, you need around $400 to $500 along with FPV goggles, radio, and necessary tools.

Can I use Oculus Quest 2 with DJI drones?

Yes, it is possible now. But you will find screen lag sometimes. To use the Oculus Quest 2, you need to install a casting app like Airscreen or Sidequest.

Summary

VR drones are fantastic for enjoying the new flying experience. Which one do you want to choose and which will fit you best? If your goal is for fun, DJI MINI 2 would be the right choice. When you think that you want to make money and be an expert in flying, you can choose Mavic Air without a doubt.
