Oculus Quest 2 headsets are known for giving the best wireless virtual reality experience. With its wireless connection, you can explore and feel the unknown world of magic, action, adventure, and many more. These experiences can get ruined if you are all jumbled up in wires.

The best way you can avoid that is by using Airpods. But the problem here is that Oculus Quest 2 doesn’t support Bluetooth connections. So how to connect AirPods to Oculus Quest 2?

With the “experimental features” on the setting menu of the headset, you can pair your Airpods with Oculus quest 2. Just go to your headset’s setting > Select “Experimental Feature” > Turn on pairing mode > Pair your AirPods to meta quest 2 successfully.

But as you can see there is just an experimental attribute. So, you will face some problems along with it. Read our article to know how you can properly connect your Airpod with Quest 2, the glitches you can face, and the ways you can avoid them.

How to Connect Airpods to Oculus Quest 2?

If you want to enjoy a game without getting cables all around your floor, Airpods are a great solution. But you can’t directly pair your Quest 2 headset with Airpod. Oculus wants you to use their built-in sound system.  But we have a way out for you. Just follow these steps for that:

Method 1: Connect Manually

First, you have to make sure your Airpod has enough charge and is up and running. Don’t take it out of the box yet.

  • Now, open up your headpiece.
  • Then go to the Quest 2 setting option.
  • Now from the pop-up screen select “Experimental Feature”.
  • At this point turn on your Airpods pairing mode.
  • Now go back to your headset and select “Bluetooth pairing”.
  • Tap pair button
  • Now select your Apple Airpods from the list and click to pair with quest 2

Note: This is not a full-proof method. It is an unofficial feature of Oculus Quest 2. Some problems may occur and you may have to do the paring process a few times but for the most part, Airpod seems to work fine. But not all Airpod models will work in this method. In fact, other Bluetooth headphones might not work at all.

Method 2: Connect Airpods Via Bluetooth Transmitter

The second method is by Bluetooth transmitter. You can connect the transmitter through your 3.5 audio jack in the Oculus headpiece. Now then what is a Bluetooth transmitter? Well, it is a device that amplifies the visual and audio input of the Oculus Quest 2 headset. It’s a great way to give your Oculus a much-needed push so you can use other electronic connections like AirPods pro without interfering with your gameplay or viewing experience.

To set up the Bluetooth transmitter you have to follow these steps:

  • First, get a suitable transmitter for you.
  • Now, you have to plug the transmitter into your 3.5 mm audio jack through the cable that came along with the transmitter.
  • After that turn on the Oculus headpiece and go to the setting.
  • Again, go to the Experimental Feature” and then navigate to the Bluetooth.
  • Turn on your Airpod’s pairing more.
  • Pair both the devices like before and wait for a while for them to connect.

Problems You Might Face After Connecting Oculus Quest 2 with Airpod

Now that you have successfully connected your Airpod with Oculus Quest 2, it is time for you to test it out. But the sad truth is since this is not an official feature you might face some problems here.

You might face two kinds of glitches here. Either the audio and video might not perfectly synch and Sutter or the frame rate might drop significantly.

Video or Audio Shutter

It is possible that the links between your Oculus Quest 2 headpiece and your AirPods may just be unsteady. It causes audio to cut out or video to stutter. Almost any game can be rendered unplayable by stuttering.

Lagging or Out of Sync

Sometimes the whole server frame rate might drop and cause your game to lag a lot. Your game might run smoothly but you will be hearing audio 2 to 5 seconds after the initial sequence. For quick action-packed games like Free fire or Dota, this can cause a lot of trouble for you.  The Oculus lacks the processing capacity to support both the sport and wireless earbuds at the same time.

You have to know here that none of these problems is directly related to your Airpod. So, don’t just go and buy a new one. It’s the headpiece’s downside. The tech is not that upgraded yet.

The Snapdragon XR2 chipset is used in the Quest 2 headset. For Bluetooth, this chipset employs Qualcomm Fastconnect 6800. The Qualcomm Fastconnect 6800 doesn’t really support AptX low latency.

If you really want to enjoy quality audio and video, the AptX feature is a must-have. There is, however, some good news. Normal audio and video to some extent will run smoothly with Airpods. So, you can play different movies, and games here.

How to Fix Quest 2 Airpods Problems?

For smooth gameplay, you need Sutter and lag-free audio. So, we have two fixes for you. First is that you can reset the headset and again do the whole process. For that:

  • Restart the headpiece.
  • Then put your headphone in the case.
  • Sut the cover and wait a few seconds.
  • Then again turn the paring mode of the Airpod and repeat the whole Bluetooth connectivity process.

Conclusion

The Bluetooth menu is a fairly new concept in the VR world. It is still in the experimental stage. But still, there are a few ways around it. And you have to accept the drawbacks here. So, we have covered everything in our article on how to connect AirPods to Oculus Quest 2. These methods also work for Airpods pro, so don’t feel hesitate to move on if you are owing one.
